What are superfoods? This is a popular term that can mean many things. It can be a food, beverage (especially juices) or supplement that has been credited with extraordinary healing powers, nutritional value or ability to help with an important health function, such as weight loss, maintaining blood pressure or giving you more energy.
Different health experts will have different lists of superfoods, but we can focus on some that have received well justified attention backed by research.
Apple Cider Vinegar
apple cider vinegar is a traditional folk remedy, made famous in modern times by a book by that name, Folk Medicine, by a country doctor named D.C. Jarvis. Since then, the Bragg brand of apple cider vinegar, along with several books, have made some very impressive claims for this product. It has been shown to help with weight loss, blood pressure, alkalizing the body (even though vinegar seems acidic, it has an alkalizing effect after digestion).
Green Superfoods
Green superfoods include spirulina, blue-green algae, chlorella and barley grass. There are some products on the market that combine these and other greens. They are very high in vitamins and minerals. Sea-based greens contain many nutrients that are hard to find in other foods. The good thing about taking green foods is that you are getting your nutrition from actual foods, rather than artificially produced vitamins.
